I’m Now Eligible for the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program: Here’s How It Works and What You Need to Know

This week I received some exciting news, I was notified by TikTok that I’m now eligible to become a TikTok Shop Affiliate! This means I can start creating videos that showcase products and earn a commission whenever someone purchases an item through my links. It’s a great way to turn my content into a source of income, and I’m thrilled to share what I’ve learned about the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program, how to qualify, how it works, and how you can make the most of it.

What Is the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program?

The TikTok Shop Affiliate Program is an innovative way for creators to monetise their content by promoting products directly within their videos. As an affiliate, you can choose from a variety of products available in the TikTok Shop, create engaging content around these products, and earn a commission on any sales generated through your unique affiliate links. It’s a seamless blend of content creation and e-commerce, allowing you to earn money while doing what you love. It’s another income stream within your affiliate marketing repertoire, so with this and e.g. Amazon Affiliate program and promoting other programs and services you can have multiple sources of income. To be eligible for the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program, there are a few key requirements you need to meet:

Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old.

Account Status: Your TikTok account should be in good standing, with no major violations of TikTok’s community guidelines.

Follower Count: While TikTok doesn’t always specify a minimum follower count, having at least 1,000 followers is a common benchmark to qualify for the program.

Once you meet these criteria, TikTok may send you an invitation to join the program. Alternatively, you might receive a notification in your app letting you know that you’re eligible.

If you’ve received the notification or email that you’re eligible, here’s how you can register and start earning:

1. Check for Eligibility:
   • Navigate to the “Creator Tools” section in your TikTok profile. If you’re eligible, you’ll see an option to join the TikTok Shop or Affiliate Program.
2. Apply for the Program:
   • Click on the application link, review the terms and conditions, and complete any required forms. You may need to provide additional information, such as your payment details.
3. Verify Your Account:
   • TikTok might request some form of identity verification or ask you to link other social media accounts to your TikTok profile. I had to upload my drivers license image, which was approved within minutes.
4. Approval Process:
   • After submitting your application, TikTok will review your account. Once approved, you’re all set to start promoting products and earning commissions.

How the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program Works

Once you’re registered and approved, the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program is straightforward to use:

Selecting Products:

• After gaining access to the TikTok Shop or affiliate portal, you can browse a wide array of products across different categories.
• Choose products that align with your content style and audience interests. For example, if you focus on beauty content, you might select skincare products or makeup items to promote. I chose mics, cameras, tripod and content creating items as that is relevant to my videos and niche.

Creating Videos:

• Create engaging and authentic videos that feature the products you’ve chosen. Your videos could include product reviews, unboxings, demonstrations, or even fun challenges.
• Be sure to include the affiliate link or tag the product in your video. This makes it easy for viewers to purchase directly through your content. You can view a product in the store and then press the ‘create video’ button. This will add the link to the video which appears like and orange box at the bottom of the video.

Earning Commissions:

• Whenever a viewer clicks on your link and buys the product, you earn a commission. The commission rate varies depending on the product and the agreements set by TikTok or the merchant.

Tracking Your Performance:

• TikTok provides detailed analytics for your affiliate activities, allowing you to see how many views, clicks, and sales your videos generate. This helps you understand what’s working and how to optimize your future content.

Examples of Earnings

Your earnings as a TikTok Shop Affiliate can vary widely depending on several factors, such as the type of products you promote, your audience engagement, and the frequency of your posts. Here’s an example of what you might expect:

• 1 Week of Active Promotion:
  • Let’s say you create 3-5 videos in a week, each featuring a different product with a 10% commission rate. If one of your videos generates $500 in sales, you’d earn $50 from that video alone. If the rest of your videos generate similar sales, you could potentially earn $150-$250 in a week.
• 1 Month of Active Promotion:
  • With consistent content creation and a growing audience, your earnings could scale. For example, if you continue promoting products at a similar rate and your videos generate $2,000 in sales over the month, you could earn $200 in commissions. For some, this number could be much higher depending on product popularity and audience size.
  • Some people are earning over $8,000 per month.

  • Unboxing and review videos for gadgets like wireless earbuds, smart home devices, or phone accessories are popular. A well-crafted video demonstrating a new set of Bluetooth earbuds can attract tech enthusiasts and generate significant sales.

  • Outfit hauls or styling videos featuring clothing brands can resonate with fashion-forward audiences. A video showing how to style a trending piece like a shacket (shirt-jacket) could inspire purchases.
