Why be an affiliate marketer?
Previously, I spoke to you about what affiliate marketing is. I’d like to delve in to the ‘why do it’ a little more and what you have to consider before taking the plunge.
In today’s online world, affiliate marketing has emerged as a lucrative way for individuals like you and me who are seeking to maximise the earning potential from their online presence, therefore enhancing financial stability and enriching our family’s lifestyle. I can’t wait!
With its low barrier to entry and potential for significant returns, affiliate marketing offers a compelling opportunity for entrepreneurs worldwide. Is becoming an affiliate marketer a game-changer for aspiring online entrepreneurs like you and me?
Start a business on a budget
For affiliate marketers, there’s no need to produce products, handle shipping and fulfilment, or manage the complicated administrative tasks that come with setting up a retail store. Instead, you can run a whole business by focusing purely on marketing (from anywhere in the world on your phone!). Even though costs are involved (apps/training/software etc. to create and host content), the overall expense for affiliate marketers is lower than for traditional businesses (bricks and mortar etc.)
If you’re looking for low-cost startup ideas or ways to make money from home, affiliate marketing is an attractive option.
There is minimal investment required compared to starting a traditional business.
No need to create a product or service from scratch.
You can start an affiliate business with low overhead costs entirely on your own.
Earn money while you sleep as your marketing efforts continue to drive sales.
Once set up, requires minimal maintenance.
Affiliate marketing lets creators generate extra income from their talents. What’s yours?
Monetise your talents, sell what you know! Affiliate marketing also allows people to generate income from their existing skills. Once you have mastered marketing other peoples’/companies products you can market your own digital product. It may be a publication, book, course and in any niche that you are an expert in. Example could be health and fitness, cooking, cars, gardening, sewing, teaching, anything! If you have a skill you can make it into a product online, sell it and make an income from it.
Or, you can use affiliate links to support your podcast, YouTube channel, or blog. By partnering with relevant brands, creators can expose their audiences to products of genuine interest. For example, a podcast that interviews people about their wellness lifestyles could become an affiliate partner for a vitamin supplement, a meditation app, or a luxury mattress.
You will have a access to a Global Market and be able to reach customers worldwide without physical boundaries.
Leverage the power of the internet to scale your business rapidly.
Focus solely on marketing and driving traffic to affiliate products or services.
Avoid the complexities of product development and inventory maintenance.
Promote multiple products across various niches to diversify your income sources.
Reduce dependency on a single product or market.
Earn commissions based on your sales performance.
Direct correlation between effort and income potential.
Build passive income streams by creating evergreen content that continues to attract visitors and generate sales.
Work from anywhere with an internet connection.
Set your own schedule and be your own boss.
Who should be an affiliate marketer?
If you can learn the following core skills, then affiliate marketing could be a lucrative career choice. To excel at affiliate marketing, you’ll need to be able to:
- Create engaging content that persuades customers to consume it
- Drive traffic to your content
- Capture potential customer details to engage with them
- Create and manage an email list
- Setup technical systems and tools to manage the running of your business (not as hard as you think)
- Develop a strategy for choosing affiliate partners and products
Do you think you can do that? I think you can? If you asked me a year ago I would say “I am not sure”. Now, I am doing all of this. So I know you can too.
Success Stories from Around the Globe
Numerous success stories attest to the transformative power of affiliate marketing. Take the case of Pat Flynn, founder of Smart Passive Income, (this is not an affiliate link) whose affiliate marketing efforts have generated millions in revenue. Through his blog, podcast, and online courses, Flynn shares valuable insights and strategies for aspiring affiliate marketers, inspiring countless individuals to follow in his footsteps.
Similarly, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents (this is not an affiliate link) has achieved remarkable success through affiliate marketing. Starting as a personal finance blogger, Schroeder-Gardner leveraged affiliate partnerships to generate substantial passive income, allowing her to travel full-time and live life on her own terms.
In conclusion, affiliate marketing presents a compelling opportunity for individuals worldwide to achieve financial independence and entrepreneurial success. With its low startup costs, global reach, and potential for passive income, affiliate marketing has transformed the lives of countless entrepreneurs around the globe. By learning from success stories and leveraging the power of affiliate partnerships, aspiring marketers can embark on their own journey towards online success. So why wait? Dive into the world of affiliate marketing today and unlock your full potential.
Affiliate marketing income spans a large spectrum. There are some affiliate marketers who make a few hundred dollars per month and others that make six figures a year. The larger your following, the more money you can make as an affiliate marketer. Compensation software company, Payscale reports that the average annual salary of an affiliate marketer is more than $55,000, based on over 7,000 salary profiles, with many affiliate marketers earning significantly more. I know people making $10-30k per month and others running 7 figure business like my mentor Dean Holland. That’s where I intend to be and I’m sure you will be too. Nothing is stopping us except us.
How Affiliate Marketing Can Change One’s Life
Financial Independence: Achieve financial freedom by creating multiple streams of passive income. Escape the constraints of traditional employment and enjoy greater financial stability.
Location Independence: Travel the world while running your affiliate marketing business from anywhere with an internet connection. Enjoy the freedom to live and work on your own terms.

OK, that’s a lot of good reasons to start online marketing. I love that it has such a low startup cost, and thattjete are ap many products and services out there to promote for profit
thanks for laying it out so clearly
Tony, thanks for your comment. I tried to lay out as if I was starting again and what I would want to know so I hope it’s useful for people. Thanks, Atif
Atif,
Great job of laying out all of the great reasons to become an Affiliate Marketer! Also, nice that you show that there are so many avenues to follow, creating a wide range of choices for someone to select from. People are not limited to a small choice of options. You give someone a lot to think about, and very good reasons to give Affiliate Marketing a try.
Kelli
Kelli, thanks for your comment. Yes there are many avenues to follow but I don’t think people know that when looking at affiliate marketing. It’s mostly shown as promoting other peoples products. Which is true. However, once you’ve become an expert you can then create your own digital products and market those and I think it’s important to say that upfront, so that when people are deciding they see that as a future opportunity as well. Many thanks, Atif
Affiliate marketing has a lot to offer; thank you for breaking it down and sharing some success stories. I know the path ahead is not going to be easy, but hearing about others finding success, helps to motivate me, if they can do it so can I.
Alison, I’m glad you found it useful, having some success stories to read. There are many people that have become masters with affiliate marketing and I’m running multiple businesses and streams of work. I wanted people to understand what is possible for them if they want to go that far. It’s great that this is a motivation for you and yes absolutely you can do it. Thanks, Atif
Atif, your post is like a motivational roadmap for those considering the affiliate marketing journey. Can’t wait to delve into the practical steps in your next one! Your insights make this online venture feel like an exciting and achievable path to success.
Sasha, welcome, and thank you for your comment. To be honest, I was looking for some kind of roadmap when I started and I couldn’t quite find anything that not only told you what to do but why and what possible. Absolutely, it’s achievable providing you’ve got the right mindset, and attitude work ethic and drive. I wish you all the best keep in touch. Thanks, Atif
Atif, this is a very well written piece about why one should consider affiliate marketing. I will say, when I was first considering this path, I wish I had been able to read something like this. You break it down in a way that I haven’t read before, and in an in-depth way. Many of the points you mentioned I wasn’t aware of until later, after I had already jumped in the pool, Interestingly enough, the one thing that I have found most surprising is how “global” my reach is. Of course I knew that the internet reached all 4 corners of the world, however, before I started this journey, I didn’t realize just how global I could extend my reach. I feel even dumb writing that out loud, because it seems like something that would be so obvious. I guess I simply never thought about just how far my business would reach. Excellent article, Atif. As always, looking forward to more!
Lauren, thank you. That’s exactly why I wrote this blog because like you I wish I had something like this to read when I first started. I guess that’s why having a blog and helping people and adding value to them is so important. I think a lot of people that tell others about affiliate marketing, make it sound very quick and specific about what that person is doing and the problem with that is they don’t go into the longer term benefits or opportunities that it can give you in the future. that’s the beauty of this that it has a global reach, your audience is literally the entire globe. I wish you all the success and thanks for commenting. Regards, Atif
Hi Atif,
After reading your post, I’d wonder why someone would NOT want to become an Affiliate Marketer!
Great explanation and more importantly, a down-to-earth way of providing information relative to what it is – a great busines opportunity – versus what it isn’t – a “get rich quick” kind of scheme.
Looking forward to your future posts!
Marc, thank you so much. I’d like to be positive about it because if you do it the right way with the right help the potential is amazing. With everything in the business world there are negatives however we don’t want to make the negatives outweigh the positives. Even though we will come across challenges along the way that’s okay we will overcome them and we will continue and we will get there eventually. You’re right it is not a get rich quick scheme, you should think of it as do it right and get rich forever. Ultimately it’s about having the lifestyle you want and control of your time that’s what this is about. That’s why we are doing it, thanks, Atif
Atif, I love your blog it’s one of the better ones based on your content and images.
But I am waiting for the missing message connection.
I am going to challenge you here.
Hint1: you’re putting the Cart Affiliate Marketing before the horse.
I shall await your response. What’s the horse in your message?
Hint2: without the horse you don’t need a Cart.
Hint3: It’s only two words.
James, how are you? I think the two words you refer to our mind and set!. I’m aware of this and I have a plan of some blogs around mindset and thinking in a different way following these. I want my readers to understand what affiliate marketing is and what’s achievable and then help them to Look at their mindset and see where the gaps are and help them think in a different way before proceeding. Thank you so much for your comment. If they are not the words, please educate me. Talk again soon thanks, Atif
Atif, Congratulations on a very well-written post that offers aspiring Affiliate Marketers a well-detailed in-depth look at why this is a supreme avenue to success in the world of digital entrepreneurship.
In particular, I love the list of all the benefits to our lives.
While it may require hard work in the beginning especially, the forever benefits and freedom to live our life the way that means the most to us far outweigh any hard work to build the vehicle that will take us there. I love the links to read other Marketer’s success stories.
Thanks Atif, I have subscribed to your Newsletter 😊
Karen, thank you so much. Just listing lots of steps to take is fine but it doesn’t give the helicopter view of what you’re trying to do. I wanted to outline what it would mean to people and what lifestyle they could live by highlighting those benefits. With everything, it is hard work and nothing is guaranteed but we will keep trying until we get there. Thanks for subscribing and I look forward to talking to you soon. Thanks, Atif
The overview you outline here is enticing and honest! Ii believe with your vision, you will succeed!
Kate, thank you so much for your comment. I think with everything if you don’t have a vision and a list of you WHYs, it’s hard to create an overview what you’re trying to do. I pray that I will succeed as I wish you do too. All the best, thanks, Atif
Great post describing all the benefits of affiliate marketing.
I started my business because I can’t work outside my home, and affiliate marketing is an opportunity for a substantial income. I did invest in a mentor, but as you say, other than that, there are minimal costs.
I am looking forward to quitting my day job and focusing all my effort on my business. My husband will soon be able to quit his day job, and we can enjoy quiet mornings drinking our coffee together.
Onward and upward!
Nakina, thank you. It’s great that this is a model that works for you and your lifestyle. And unlike other people who say you can click a few buttons and earn lots of money we are being honest and realistic that there are costs involved and you do need a mentor. I hope the day you quit your job and focus on your business will come very soon and then you can drink coffee with your husband all day every day. Thanks, Atif
Atif, this is a post I will come back to again & again! All you ever want to know about Affiliate Marketing!!
Eleanor, thank you so much for your comment. It’s great that you feel this is a reference material for you that you can refer to again. How are you getting on? I hope all is well with you. Thanks, Atif
Great post Atif,
I just signed up for your newsletter. You make me want to me an awesome affiliate marketer, and I now really believe I can do it.
keep the blogs coming, I’m learning so much from you. 🙂
Sandy (newsletter email didn’t go to spam! win)
Sandy, I’m so glad you’re learning things from me. I’m nowhere near expert yet but anything I learn. I want others to learn to make the journey easier. It’s great that it makes you want to be an awesome affiliate marketer and I’m sure and have no doubt that you will. Here’s to the future. Thank you so much, Atif
The potential to learn a skill that then be used to sell our own products is an exciting feature of affiliate marketing. And it’s pretty clear that creating digital products and online courses is going to be a very big industry (it already is).
Nathan, exactly, and I think it was important to highlight that because I don’t think many people know. Affiliate marketing is usually just sold as click a few buttons and promote a few peoples products and that’s it. And if you do it properly you can build a very successful business doing that. However, it goes even further you can create a product and you can own it and sell it and get people to sell it on your behalf. That’s where it really gets exciting. I look forward to when you’re doing that. Thanks,
Hi Atif, you made there and awesome post describing with many details what is affiliate marketing and it’s advantages. Affiliate marketing is for me one of the best business models for beginners. You did a nice research there which impressed me. It worth reading about successful affiliate marketers thanks for sharing with us the links.
Take care,
Martin
Martin, thank you I think it was important for people to see real life examples of affiliate marketers that have progressed and built pretty big businesses. They are working on multiple income streams and there’s no reason why you and I can’t do the same. I look forward to hearing how you get on. Thanks, Atif
Hi Atif!
I found your blog fascinating to read even though I have already chosen affiliate marketing. Let me explain…
Through your blog posts, you have already created the optimistic outline of truth about WHO, WHAT, WHY, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW regarding affiliate marketing. You have also expressed your own positive emotions about your decision. I wish I had read something to this effect several months ago while I was on the fence about making this business move. I was inundated with scam ads with very few truthful ones. I definitely would have taken the plunge sooner! Your post is relatable to many viewers!
I look forward to your future posts, Atif!
All the best!
Milissa Neirotti
Melissa, thank you so much for your comments. I agree with you I wish I had something to read earlier on my journey that will explain things a certain way. What’s great is that now that we are learning we can help others like we needed when we started. How are you getting on? thanks, Atif
Atif,
Great post you have there! It really lays out how great affiliate marketing is and can be for one. You put a lot of insight into taking that leap to become an affiliate marketer. The structure of your post, I even learned a lot from. You know I’m just beginning, so it’s great to see someone that has more experience and what they have done. Thank you for that great insight. I look forward to your next post.
Meredith
Meredith, thank you so much for your comment. It’s great learning from each other, that’s what makes the world go round. I’m only a few steps ahead of you and Dean is quite a few steps ahead of me. As long as we share and help the more people can live the lifestyle that they want to do the best for their families. Thank you so much look forward to reading your posts in the coming weeks too, thanks, Atif
Hi Atif. Great post and a good roadmap for anyone thinking of starting an affiliate marketing business. As you say anyone can learn the skills needed very quickly
All the best]
Steve
Steve, Many thanks. Yes with some guidance and the right tools most people will be able to setup an online business like this. Regards, Atif
Hey Atif, you have pointed out many good reasons to be an affiliate marketer that would pique the interest of most people. and I really like that you include the niche aspect so people like me that didn’t fully understand what we would market. As in I get to pick something I actually know about, yea for me lol. I look forward to your next blog, as always well done.
Thanks for the good read.
Jon Bowman
Jon, thank you so much for your comments. I tried to be as broad as possible around the subject. A lot of the information I found when I was learning didn’t go into enough detail or show the bigger picture. You realise that eventually once you learn and grown your business you can then sell your own product based on your expertise and interest. Which area is of interest to you? What are you an expert in? Good to hear thanks, Atif
Atif, a remarkable piece of writing. If anybody was wondering what affiliate marketing was all about, this is the well of plenty. Awesome.
Andy, thank you so much for your comment. We grow and learn and document so that others can learn and grow. How are you getting on? Thanks so much, Atif
Atif, this is a very comprehensive and well-written post, although, in my opinion, it’s missing a few bullet points. Apart from that, it covers everything anybody who is considering starting on the Affiliate Marketing “journey” needs to know in order to make an informed decision.
I’m a little worried that a lot of our fellow IP partners in this “Saturday Share” stage of our “journeys” are aiming their posts only at the people within our group and are forgetting that the ultimate aim must be to write posts aimed at strangers outside our current group in order to “invite” them in. Your post does not fall into that trap, and it is correctly and effectively aimed at “outsiders” who have not yet discovered the joys of Affiliate Marketing in general, and Internet Profits in particular.
Well done.
Cheers
Phil
Phil, thank you so much for your comment. For my personal learning I’ll be interested in which bullet points you think I missed. I’m still learning and it would be good to know, thank you. I understand your point about the Saturday share but I guess it’s early days and everybody is finding their feet. In time as we improve and grow they should realign. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you soon thanks, Atif
Atif,
What an awesome post about Affiliate Marketing and its perks! I really appreciate how you laid out the steps so clearly, making it seem like something anyone can dive into by following the core steps. It’s fantastic that these skills are accessible to everyone – truly, anyone can learn the ropes!
Sherri
Sherri, thank you for your comments. I do believe unfortunately that there are some people that make things sound complicated either on purpose or because they want to appear to be unique. This isn’t about that this is about helping anyone who wants to take the opportunity to start a business and achieve what they want out of life. We are all on a journey and l have so much to learn but I agree, anyone can do this if they truly want to have the right mindset. Thanks, Atif
Atif – I am becoming a HUGE fan of you and your posts! I hope one day we can meet in person and I can shake your hand. Anyway, these are excellent reasons and thanks for summarizing and confirm my decision to join this community and business venture. Be well, my friend!
Ernie, thank you so much for your comments. I am very glad that you’re finding this material useful. That’s the whole point that it helps people understand and inspires them to do things. I’m also on that same journey and I have a long way to go but I’ve got the right coach, the right systems and the right help to give me the best chance of this working. All the best take care thanks, Atif
