This week has been even crazier than normal weeks. My 9 to 5 has kicked up a gear and I’ll be travelling to the client in a couple of weeks to do a series of workshops. At home on top of the usual logistics and Family activities, I’m also Building my online affiliate marketing business. I’ve reached a point now where I’m building my audience which means using social media platforms to post videos which people can consume and start to follow me. I’ve reached 706 followers now on TikTok and I’m getting views consistently over 300 now, which is good.
Also, as the month of Ramadan is coming to close, there’s a lot of family gatherings, extra prayers at the mosque and downtime for contemplation and reflection and prayer. I’ve also lost 21 lb in weight by cutting out sugar and reducing carbs. The doctor said I was getting to pre-diabetic stage, and as my Family on both sides have diabetes, it’s something I need to take control of now.
So Building a business AND improving my health at the same time!
What IF and blogging
This week I want to talk to you about owned assets. What is one of those I hear you ask? In simple terms for building an affiliate marketing business an owned asset is a blog. A website that you set up with a domain name that’s owned by you, where you post content for your audience to read and consume, and most importantly get value from.
These days, with all of our data being put onto platforms, like TikTok, Facebook, Google, these giant companies can easily control access to our own information and content. What if one day Facebook disappears or there’s a problem with Google and it’s out for a few hours. We’ve seen recently in the US about TikTok possibly being banned completely. If any of these things happen even though quite unlikely, I would lose everything. So to prevent that and to give me control of my content in my business, that’s where the owned asset comes in. You own the domain name, the blog, the content, how it’s used, as well as being able to develop it and grow it in the future. You’re not dependent on anyone else. You can also back up your blog, so if there are any issues, you should be able to bring everything back.
With almost 4 billion people worldwide currently connected to the internet, there has never been a better time for us affiliate marketers to have blogging as their main marketing strategy. Blogging is a marketing tactic that is used to get your business more visibility.
What is an owned asset?
– It is YOUR HUB, your place where people will come and visit and where you will send them around your affiliate marketing world. like your own airport!
– Your own platform on the internet
– A place where you can share content
– Content that viewers of this can consume and get value
– Through consumption of your content and exposure to you, they will get to know you, like you, and in time, trust you
– In time, this audience will start to enter your email list
– An email list will become your single most valuable asset
– You will get strangers to become true fans in time
And it’s these true fans that will stick with you for many many years to come and are the ones who will benefit from your recommendations and buy from you.
The focus of an owned asset is to build your business
The purpose of your owned asset is to share
– Goals plans and why?
– What you have done?
– What you are doing currently or doing next
– Mistakes made, and lessons learned
– Emotions and your thoughts
– Your purpose is to be you
– Be open, be honest, be vulnerable
You’re not creating content to sell, your creating content to share and those that consume or benefit from it
I’m sharing with you, but I am learning as I am going so that you can learn. Reduce the time it takes you and not make the mistakes I made.
Why have an owned asset?
1. Drive traffic to your website, offers, links and more
It makes you searchable on the internet. They can type your name into a browser, and find you. This is more for when you are better known. Or you can tell people to ‘Google me!’.
Every time you create and publish a blog post, it’s one more indexed page on your website, which means one more opportunity for you to show up on the search engine results page and drive traffic to your website in.
2. Repurpose blog content for social media
Every time you create a new article, you’re creating content that people can consume on social media. You can make a short video version of your blog post and publish on TikTok or IG Reels. From your social media you can send people to your blog. This way they can consume your content and sign up to newsletters and get offers and free gifts etc.
Blog content also helps keep your social media presence going.
Your blog is the main HUB, it holds ALL your content and you are not reliant on others.
It’s the HIVE of activity for you and your business. You want your audience (Bees) to come to YOUR HIVE and in time they will make HONEY for you!
You’re strengthening your social reach with blog content and driving new website visitors to your blog via your social channels.
3. Convert traffic into leads
With traffic coming through your blog, each post offers a fresh chance to convert visitors into leads. Simply include a lead-generating call-to-action in every post, offering valuable resources like ebooks or webinars in exchange for information. While not all readers will convert, it’s normal; the goal is consistent blogging with calls-to-action, and continually improving over time.
4. Establish authority
Top blogs address the common questions of their readers and customers, establishing authority within their niche. By consistently providing valuable content tailored to the target audience, you can position yourself as leader in your field of Affiliate Marketing. Imagine the impact of sharing a blog post to clarify confusion for a customer. While establishing authority may not be as tangible as metrics like traffic and leads, its impact is amazing.
5. Drives long-term results
Imagine the dream scenario: jetting off around the world, hitting the gym, spending time with family and friends, all while still driving traffic to your website. Well, that’s exactly what blogging achieves. Picture this: you spend just an hour on Sunday crafting and publishing a blog post. By Monday, that post has garnered 100 views and generated ten leads. And it doesn’t stop there. You wake up the next day to find another 50 views and five leads rolling in.

Hi Atif,
You are one busy guy! That’s a lot you have going on… excellent time management! Improving health and business is great. That’s my focus as well. Dealing with my own health issues and preventing further issues, my goal is to build a business in a healthy manner. I enjoyed your description of the owned asset, so through. I also like being reminded aboutwhy to have an owned asset, #5 the long-term results… having that freedom and lifestyle! wish you continued success!
Denny
Denny, Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It means a lot to hear that you resonate with my focus on improving health and building a business in a sustainable manner. Indeed, owning assets for long-term results offers invaluable freedom and lifestyle choices. I wish you the very best on your journey towards health and business success as well! Your encouragement fuels my motivation. thanks, Atif
Hi Atif – Yet another great post. BTW, congratulations on the weight loss and heathy eating habits – well done! The “What If” is scary. Like you, I have my own owned asset to use as a foundation. Great idea on repurposing your blog posts to short or longer videos (depending on your style and platform to be used). Your point on establishing authority is brilliant! That is a unique and very appropriate way to think about confidence in content posted. Great job, as always, mu friend!
Ernie, Thank you so much for your kind words and congratulations! I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed the post and resonate with the ideas shared. Repurposing content into videos is indeed a great way to establish authority and connect with audiences. Your support means a lot, and I’m grateful for your encouragement on my journey. Cheers to continued success for both of us, my friend! Thanks, Atif
How do you do it all? Work, family, affiliate marketing…. I am in awe of your amazing consistent social media posts!!! I am still trying to figure out my social media “strategy.” When I am with family, I try to be 100% present, put away the phone, and share the special time I have with those I love. It seems like there is not enough time in the day, but you make it look easy!
Alison, Thank you so much for your kind words and admiration! Balancing work, family, and social media can indeed be a juggling act. Being present with family is crucial, and I admire your commitment to cherishing those moments. While it may seem challenging, finding a balance comes with practice and prioritisation. Your support means a lot, and I’m grateful for your encouragement on my journey. Thanks, Atif
Hi Atif
This guide to an “Owned Asset” is soooo good you should break it up into topic chapters, add a little more detail (not that much is needed), and release it as your own bonus ebook. It would help tons of people – it’s certainly helped me. Many thanks, Michael
p.s. Interesting correlation with our IP and AS community—setting higher life standards for ourselves by building online businesses has us also taking better care of our bodies. I, too, am embracing a keto diet for better health and weight loss.
Thank you so much for your enthusiastic feedback, Michael! I’m thrilled to hear that the guide has been helpful to you. Your suggestion to expand it into an ebook is fantastic, and I’ll definitely consider it. It’s fascinating to hear about the correlation between building online businesses and prioritising health; embracing a keto diet sounds like a positive step towards improved well-being. Your support and engagement mean a lot to me. Thanks, Atif
hello Atif!.
how are you ?
I like your Blog and very informative!.
thanks for sharing !
Noor, thank you for your support, Atif
Ramadan has always fascinated me. The humility and contemplation is beautiful. My Muslim family and I will be going to a new noodle restaurant that recently opened after Ramadan ends.
The reason you are so busy with affiliate marketing is because you love doing it!! Until you retire from the 9 to 5, you have quite the juggling act to maintain, but I bet you enjoy that, too!!
Kate, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Ramadan, and I’m glad you find its traditions beautiful. Enjoying a meal together with your family after the fasting period sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. You’re absolutely right—I’m passionate about affiliate marketing and enjoy the juggling act of balancing it with my 9 to 5. Your understanding and support mean a lot to me. Thanks, Atif
Atif,
Congratulations on your weight loss and healthy eating habits. I feel when our body is healthy so is our mind. Great breakdown of owned asset.
Sherri
Sherri, thanks for your comment and encouragement. It means a lot thanks, Atif
Congratulations on your health, when you feel better, your mind also follows. Enjoy your family time as Ramadan comes to a close, these times are very special.
You’re an inspiration with time management, my 9-5 takes up the majority of time as it’s not 9-5…. Being a mum of a young family and supporting my husband through his 9-5 has been challenging. I really enjoy your videos and look out for the daily. Well done.
This weeks blog has so much value- you could maybe even add subtitles and make it an ebook?
Sarah, thank you so much for your kind words! I’m thrilled to hear that you find value in my content and that it resonates with your own experiences. Balancing work, family, and personal health can indeed be challenging, but your dedication and support inspire me. I appreciate your suggestion to turn this week’s blog into an ebook with subtitles—it’s definitely something I’ll consider. Your encouragement means the world to me, and I’m grateful for your ongoing support. Thanks, Atif
Atif,
Do you sleep? Lol! You are so busy and making so much progress in all areas of your life. Congratulations!
I like how you pointed out that a blog can continue getting leads days after you’ve written it. I hadn’t thought about how the work put into a blog would continue to pay off way past the time I’ve written it. That was encouraging!
I wish you all the best in the coming week! I am looking forward to hearing how it goes!
Nakina
Thank you for your kind words, Nakina! While it can be a juggling act, I try to find balance in my busy schedule. I’m glad you found the insight about blogs generating leads over time encouraging—it’s one of the joys of content creation. Your support means a lot, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated on how the week unfolds. Wishing you all the best as well! Thanks, Atif
Hi Atif,
Great post as always! I’m very impressed with your ambition to succeed in every aspect of your life… I have a hard time prioritizing my time, and staying focused.
I found myself barking at one of my kids the other day. I felt so bad…. I told him I was sorry. I just felt like I was being pulled in every direction, and not accomplishing anything! We all have our days… I admire you and how you handle it all well.
Congratulations on your weight loss too.I struggle with that myself.
I always look forward to your post because, you give great information, it’s easy to read, and you are killing it with social media! I need all the help I can get…
Keep it up! I look forward to your next post. Thank you, and take care.
Meredith
Thank you so much for your kind words and support, Meredith! Balancing various responsibilities can indeed be challenging, but please know that we all have those moments—we’re only human. I’m glad you found the post helpful, and I’m here to offer any assistance you may need. Remember, progress takes time and consistency, and I’m rooting for you on your journey. Take care, and I’ll be sure to keep the helpful content coming! Thanks Atif
Atif, Your dedication to and the balance in your professional and personal life is inspiring.
As a result, you are making impressive strides in growing your audience !!
The significance of blogging as a cornerstone of affiliate marketing is timely. As you pointed out, while platforms like TikTok and Facebook offer immense reach, they also come with the risk of losing access or visibility overnight due to factors beyond our control.
I agree that the purpose of an owned asset is to share authentically and build trust with your audience.
I do not doubt that you will inspire countless individuals to take control of their digital presence and embark on their own journeys toward success.
Eleanor, your kindness and support mean a lot to me! I’m happy to hear that you’re inspired by the balance I try to keep. Blogging helps create a stable and authentic connection, especially in today’s digital world. Your encouragement boosts my motivation to help others take charge of their online presence. Thanks for your wisdom, and I’m excited to keep moving forward with you! Thanks, Atif
Fantastic post Atif,
I totally love reading every entry; I find myself learning so much and getting more confident in how I can become better at Tik Tok – even if I haven’t had the chance to start yet.
Thank you for providing such important information for us “newbies” 🙂
Take care!
Marc, thanks for your comment. I’d encourage you to just make a start. There’s no time where we feel. We are completely ready to make these jumps. You can always delete a post if you don’t like it and we get better overtime. Just go for it thanks, Atif
Atif,
I agree having a blog as your main hub is a valuable practice. One thing to remember is that not all blog software is created equal. A few months ago I researched over 12 different blog creation platforms and discover something disturbing. There was only one that meets the criteria for an owned asset. The rest say in their documentation that they own all the information you put in a blog on their software platform.
This is an important qualifier. It would be heartbreaking to have built a blog on one of these other platforms only to have them shut it down and loose everything thinking you owned it.
Secondly, the other 11 platforms just did not meet the qualifications needed to setup a professional blog. However, there is one platform that is truly an owned asset and meets all the requirements for a professional blog. What is that platform? It is WordPress loaded on your own domain.
I hope this helps when deciding to setup a blog.
great post Atif and I look forward to reading you next one.
CJ
CJ, thank you for sharing your thoughts! It’s really important to pick the right blogging platform that lets you own and control your content. I totally agree that using WordPress on your own domain is a great choice for a professional blog. Your advice will definitely help others choose the best platform for them. Thanks for your support, and I’m excited to share more with you in the future! Thanks, Atif
Another fantastic blog post. As the others have said, you are killing it and have such a strong drive to do so. I admire your tenacity and strength to get stuff done. Well done my friend. I wish I had your energy. Keep up the great work and I always look forward to the next post.
Vanessa, thank you so much for your continued support. I really appreciate it. I’ve following the plan and putting in the time and working as hard as I can. I’m sure there’s even more that I can do. Wishing you all the best thanks, Atif
I love the idea of your blog being a hub to other assets such as social media and sales pages.
I have a hub for my products, but not looked at my blog as a hub, I am now going to be putting more links in there to my other online pages. Thanks
Hi Atif, a lot of great content! Must be read twice to get everything. By the way, honey rhymes with money right?😉You’ve done again a nice job here, this time, by defining clearly what’s an own asset and stating it’s importance for an affiliate marketing business. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Martin
Atif, I get excited just watching your progress! You are an inspiration to the rest of us as to what is possible. Great information on the use of a Blog and it’s purpose in the business world of today. Continue the Great work!
Hi Atif!
This is a wonderful post filled with important details for all affiliate marketers whether new to the online business or seasoned with stepping stones behind them!
I’m so glad that your health and business moving in the right direction!
Keep up the valuable content! I will surely return for more of your posts!
All the best!
Milissa Neirotti
Atif, Aside from this being an incredible article… one thing that really sticks out to me is how much you have grown and improved from your initial blog posts. Your initial posts were never bad, of course… but this particular post in general is so well laid out and your graphics are very well done. I couldn’t help but notice that your banner image showing the Iceberg Effect book is very well done, too. I’m so happy to see how far you’ve come in such a short period of time. So many newbie affiliate marketers are going to learn so much from you! You have so much knowledge to offer!
