Affiliate Marketing ads and content
Now that I planted my seedling to becoming an affiliate marketer, all my social media kept throwing affiliate marketing videos at me, obviously based on their algorithm. It was like the advertising screens at Piccadilly Circus. Bright lights, overwhelming and frankly too brash. This had a good and a bad side. On the good side it was nice to see lots of people doing very well making a side income that would help them and their families. It was nice to see young people doing amazing things and being innovative. What was bad and quite irritating to be honest was the very short videos with people pointing at different corners at statements of how much money they’ve made overnight. How much money they’ve made day by day or month by month and even though that’s great for them and that’s the whole point of affiliate marketing, It creates an expectation that its quick, easy and doesn’t require much work.
What I’ve learnt since is that it does work, it is amazing, but it is not easy and is not quick. In fact it will take a lot longer than you think and you have to learn a lot of new skills. It almost feels like you are learning a new trade or studying for a degree in affiliate marketing.
Regarding these affiliate marketing ads, there were three things that really gave me cause for concern or worry, and they were:
- They just showed the end result and huge earnings without the journey it took to get there
- There was an “all you need to do is….” attitude about how it’s so easy and showing that you just go to this site, get a link, go to Pinterest send a link out and collect your commission. This is not how it works in real life.
- The last thing was the most important, and that was trust and integrity of the person in the advert. Most people almost had the same script, the same format just to say that I got this look what I got. You didn’t feel a connection to the person, you didn’t know if you could trust them you didn’t know if they were lying. You just had no relationship other than they all sent you a link to something that will make all of this happen. But of course it doesn’t. Then…….
Deans ad – Traditional Affiliate Marketing is DEAD!
I then started seeing an ad quite often and quite consistently from a very charismatic British guy with a beard. That was, of course our very own Dean Holland. The first impression of Dean and his ad were that he is different from all the others. What I mean by that is, he spoke about traditional affiliate marketing, being dead, it was more realistic, the years of experience he had came through, the fact that his journey had been long and also difficult was apparent. He also was sat at a desk in an office of his own company with awards on the shelf behind him, he had a logo. He had credibility with other people like Russell Brunson and Tony Robbins, and the thing that grabbed me, the most was he had a book an actual paper copy of a book which at that point, I’d never seen before. It was usually a PDF download of some generic stuff but not only was it a book written by him, it had a forward by Russell Brunson (Guy in black T-Shirt) and it would be sent to your house anywhere in the world for just the cost of the postage ($7.96).
Dean’s message
Dean‘s message was very clear and that was that the traditional affiliate marketing model is dead and is no longer relevant. This resonated with me because up until now other than learning how affiliate marketing works, I wasn’t really getting any commissions and the very few I did get were small. Having an actual book plus the story plus the reality plus the success that he had and also that he’s willing to adapt and change, told me that this guy knows what he’s talking about. He also came across as very decent, very honest, trustworthy, transparent, and that made it easier to believe him and to start to trust him. Also, he was British from the UK, like me and the connection felt a little bit easier and the understanding is there I felt.
Dean’s Book – The Ice Berg Effect
So I went ahead, putting in my email address and name and ordered the iceberg affect book and it came a week or two later. It may sound silly, but the colour coding the branding the look of the website was great. The look of the book gave it credibility and it was believable. You could see the effort that had been put in. It wasn’t just a two page PDF just for the sake of getting an email address it was an actual book of value. Having the likes of Russell Brunson endorsing the book and writing the forward it gives Dean and what he’s doing immense gravitas. Being recognised by leading people in this field made me think that Dean is the real deal and somebody I can learn from, after all what was missing for me, was the coach and mentor side of affiliate marketing. Dean spoke of the problem with an affiliate marketing where all the other adverts just spoke about how much money they made every night. There was no reality with those adverts. The fact that Dean said “some people don’t like me”, showed me that he knows what he’s talking about, because people that work honestly and openly are often not liked by others, who don’t. The other thing I really liked is when Russell Brunson said that Dean‘s funnel is the ultimate funnel. Dean had developed and evolved his funnel to be credited with the accolade of the ‘ultimate funnel’ by Russell Brunson, who is a cofounder of ClickFunnels. That’s high, praise indeed.
Dean always overdelivers; so not only do you get the book you get three bonuses;
BONUS#1: The audio version of the book which you can download and listen to straightaway while you wait for your paper version to arrive in the post, which is frankly genius.
BONUS#2: Access to a masterclass which is the highlights of the book online class.
We are not finished yet then there was;
BONUS#3: Awesome content inspirational emails for the next seven days.
What did it say? – review of book………next time
So, the book arrived it felt great in my hand, I listened to the audio version. I attended the masterclass and I received seven days of inspiration. It’s quite a lot to cover here so in my next blog, I will do a more of an in-depth review of the book, in the meantime, you can use this link to get yours and be ready to read next week’s blog and you can follow the review with your book in your hand.
What I will say is, this is probably the point where I truly believed that affiliate marketing does work will work and that I can do it. Providing I had the mentor and coaching to do it and after listening to Dean and reading the book I knew this is the right man for the job. Get your copy now even if you are unsure about affiliate marketing, even if you don’t think you’ll do it, even if you think you already know how to do it. Just get the book and read it because it’s worth just reading as a standalone book, you will learn something if nothing else.
Thank you for reading, I hope it helped you in some way. Is this what you are thinking of doing? Let me know your thoughts. You are only a few steps behind me!

There are definitely plenty of affiliate marketing ads out there, and I would agree that most only give the end result. I think that is definitely what has separated Dean Holland apart, he doesn’t sugar coat it . Most people want the easy way out so Dean’s approach of telling you it will not work if you do not put in the effort is a breath of fresh air.
Jon, absolutely, and that’s where all the confusion comes in. It took a long time for me to go through all the weeds and rubbish, and get to a place where I understand what’s going on and finding someone like Dean, who can help and guide. Thanks for the comment., Atif
Love this! Honest, detailed and a great account of the benefits of a great mentor just like Dean Holland.
Martin, thanks for your comment. I tried to be as detailed as possible, but sometimes that can be boring for others to read so it’s a bit of a fine balance of detail I have to make. Honesty is always going to be how I post. If I’m not honest I’m not real if I’m not real people won’t believe me it’s the honesty that will help people and bring value to them. I feel. Thanks for the comment and I look forward to seeing what you do next also, Atif
If you see a lot of people having the same script, it is probably because they copy each other.
Especially for those platforms that have short videos, like Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube.
There are tools that can show which videos are getting viral. So people just “model” or “copy” the video, using the exact same script.
That’s why you can see videos from different people saying the same thing word for word.
In fact, there are courses that teach this tactic.
Alan, you are right and that’s why it makes it so hard to see who’s telling the truth and who isn’t. I think the key is to just be yourself and just tell people what you’re doing rather than jumping up and down about how much money you earn. Thanks for the comment. Atif
Hello – I have started to follow you as you offer great wisdom and advice. I agree, Dean is the best. I, too, now get so many affiliate advertisements on social media and in my email. And most say, “do these 3 things and get rich in 30 days” (or something like that, anyway). Thank you for being an honest contributor to the discussion on reality vs fantasy. Well done and I look forward to your next post!
Ernie, thanks for following me it means a lot, thank you. One thing I will always be is honest without that nothing is real. Thanks, Atif
I think I feel the same kind of frustration when I see ads displaying how much money they make with the “you just have to…”. Underneath, there is so much more… They show you the tip of the iceberg without actually telling you there was a journey under it. They bring false expections to beginners. But what is also frustrating is that these gurus are the ones that attract the most views and followers on YouTube. Not surprising that most affiliate marketers quit after a few months of trying. They have wrong expectations and poor, empty training.
Martin
Martin, thanks for the comment and I totally agree with you. And that’s why I feel so blessed that we are now working with a coach and with a system that is showing us the best way and the right way of doing this. I can’t wait to see where it takes us. All the best my friend , Atif
I completely feel the same. I saw a TikTok this morning that boasted about earning £20,000 last month and that she’s only been doing it for 2 months. My initial reaction was anger but as the day went by I stopped thinking about it.
It may be real, it may be fake to get likes and subscribers, but it actually doesn’t matter. Following Dean gives me the confidence that I’m doing it the right way. Don’t get rich quick, get rich forever….
Sarah, you are right it really doesn’t matter what other people are doing. As long as we are authentic and real with our audience and we do it in a way that they understand and take them on the journey rather than just showing them some results should be okay. Thanks for dropping a comment. I really appreciate it. Atif
I don’t think traditional affiliate marketing is dead, e.g. offer something of value, get an email, build a list of emails, promote to that list, sell product…it is still highly profitable for the very few…and that was always the way… I do think how we implement our traffic generating strategies and communicate with our audience is changing, and as well as the traditional way there is a whole new additional way based on influencing.
Great read. Thanks
Tony, that was a quote from Dean where he wasn’t talking about the method. It was the fact that ad costs have gone up and commissions are quite low. Therefore you end up being in the red. I agree that the traffic and communication strategies are changing. This is what we must learn and master going forward. Many thanks, Atif
Hi Atif
Like you, i struggled for over 7 years searching for the answers, following the teachings of other so called ‘gurus’ but with virtually no success. I stumbled upon Dean recently and very quickly realised he was quite different and joined the group. I am now looking forward to starting down the path of regular success.
Tim, wow, seven years you really have put in the time and effort. I’m so glad that you now have Dean and you’ll be able to flourish with your business. Your experiences over those years will be valuable lessons for all of us and your audience. I wish you all the best. Atif
This book made me give my all to starting my affiliate marketing business. Before I read this book, I was a bit involved as my husband tried this program and that program, and so on. I couldn’t wrap my head around what affiliate marketing was. The tasks seemed to vary depending on what program you signed up with.
I loved the fact that Dean outlines four steps of online marketing. Do these, and you will make money. He’s not telling you to sell his product. He tells you how to start an affiliate marketing business in general.
And I loved the audiobook aspect.
I was reluctant to “invest” in shipping and handling because I didn’t know if I could trudge through the book.
It is a very easy read and an engaging listen. I listened to the audiobook twice before my hard copy came!
I, too, highly recommend this book to anyone interested in starting an online business, especially if you’re interested in affiliate marketing.
Nakina, exactly, that’s what I felt. Nothing to this point had put affiliate marketing in a logical step-by-step sequence which is why it was so confusing. Everything was just pieces of a jigsaw but no overall picture or vision. Dean and his ice effect book gave me the clarity that I needed. And it was the best stepping stone anyone could have to start climbing the affiliate marketing mountain . Many thanks, Atif
Hey Atif
I really enjoyed reading this post. You told a great story and I can relate with so much of it.
I believe you are now in the right place and I’m not too far behind you. I agree a mentor is very important and Dean is the real deal. Now I’m going to go read the book again. 🙂
Thanks Sandy
Sandy, many thanks for reading the post and leaving a comment. It’s great that we can relate with each other on what we’ve been through so far. The missing part for me was the mentor, and now I have one, and a very good one at that. Talk soon, Atif
Atif,
Great job! I got the book and loved all the extras that came with it. Times are definitely changing and to be successful online one must change with it. The book tells you how to start to make that change and how to tap into a mentor that truly cares about the success of his students.
I can attest that Dean Holland over delivers. Great review of the book.
CJ
CJ, you are right in what you say times are definitely changing. The clarity the book gives allows you to correct your mindset and have the initial building blocks in the right order to start building your Affiliate marketing business. Thank you my friend. Atif
Hey Atif, A very realistic post and one I can relate too very much. I spent a long time jumping from one shiny object to another enrolling in programmes that over promised and seriously under delivered. And the quick rich schemes like in 2 weeks get rich came at me on the daily! I was at a point where I felt so confused and frustrated. Then I came across Dean’s book, opted in to receive it and then listened to the audio. I was so happy to receive the actual book a week or 2 later. Like you I knew Dean was different, I could feel it, very genuine and I felt really good about my decision to opt in. I haven’t looked back. Your post is great and offers really awesome value for anyone looking to become an Affiliate Marketer and are considering opting in for his free book. I say just do it!!
https://karenelissabeth.com/hello-2024/
Karen, many thanks for your comment. It’s a great feeling when after looking for so long and wading through all the shiny objects, you actually find something that is what you were looking for. Something that gives you clarity, a vision to follow and logical steps, which I couldn’t find. Here’s to the future and what we can build . Atif
Hi Atif,
I am a Dean fan myself. He has such integrity that I do believe that if anyone gets his book and works with him will learn how to do affiliate marketing in todays world 2024. He is always at the forefront rather than coming from behind. I know that is not how he started. But, coming from being in $60,000 in debt to becoming a multi-millionaire was not easy but he shows how it is possible for any of us. This is what I like about the Iceberg Effect, we can see the journey to success written out plainly. With no get rich quick schemes, but hard work someone can end up learning how to make passive income on a regular basis. I am excited to read your next blog on the the Icebert Effect review. I would be curious to hear your thoughts.
Best,
Steph
Steph, thanks for the comment. Absolutely, he has come from having debt to being a multimillionaire and he’s done it by working hard, working out how to do it and most importantly by getting help from somebody who’s done it themselves. That’s the key, following somebody on social media pointing at a screen isn’t how you do it. It’s the how that is the most important thing and that starts on the foundations of what the iceberg effect book gives us. Thanks again talk soon . Atif
Hello Atif
I want to sincerely congratulate you on the excellent post you have shared. Your ability to describe affiliate marketing and your experience in getting to know Dean through his book provide invaluable confidence to your blog readers. You convincingly convey the assurance that your mentor has overcome obstacles and is now sharing that knowledge to help us do the same.
Congratulations again, and like you, I highly recommend this book to all your readers. It’s a must-read.
Regards,
Ezequiel Wells
Ezequiel, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m hoping that by being very detailed open and honest will help as many people as possible to understand what an affiliate marketing is and how it can help them. Thanks for the comment and talk to you soon. Atif
Atif,
I really enjoyed your blog! Everything you said about Dean is spot on! He is genuine and very relatable. The guidance he gives is incredible. As you said, there are so many Affiliate Marketing ads out there that just make it seem simple and fast to make money, with little to no effort. Dean is right up front with everyone about how you must do the work, and put in the time, to reap the rewards. I wish you much success in your journey, and look forward to more posts from you!
Kellli
Kelli, thank you so much for your kind words. Dean really is what I needed to allow me to push forward and now feel like that’s much closer to making it actually happen. Dean is always very generous and honest with his feedback as well as being at the top of his game with all the rule changes with email and how that affects us. How are you getting on? I look forward to hearing more about your journey too. Take care, Atif
Hi Atif!
I enjoyed your detailed information about Dean Holland and his Iceberg Effect book. It really is true that we have to swim through a sea of scam ads and untruths. I’m glad you have found a sense of integrity with Dean. I have as well.
All the best!
Milissa Neirotti
Milissa, thanks. We really have gone through a thick forest and weeds to get to where we are now. If I knew then what I knew now, I probably would’ve achieved what I wanted to, but everything has its time and you have to learn as you go. Otherwise it’s not real. If things just happen it doesn’t mean anything so now we can really push hard in the right direction, thanks, Atif
Atif, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one to like the honesty in Affiliate Marketing. Anyone can make a dollar being dishonest, but it has it’s consequences. One of those would be your BAD reputation an loosing your customers. Dean was totally honest and that was the main thing that attracted me to his program… When we see those ads, where they are pointing to what they earned on their bank statements, what they don’t tell you is that they have been in business for 20 years… Being Open and Honest will get us to where we need to be and Dean is the one we need to follow! Keep it up!
David, I absolutely agree with you if we’re going to make a business and provide a living for our families and our children it has to be done in a legal honest and decent manner. What example would I be giving to my children if I just conned people, spammed people just to get a quick buck? That’s not what this is about and in the short term it’s not even about money it’s about the right mindset, doing the right things, the right way in the right order to get to a point where you can then add value to people, and the money is the side-effect of that . Thanks my friend. Talk to you soon. Atif.
Atif,
I can’t tell you how many ads I saw just like that. Showing how much money the affiliates are making and that you can do it also if you buy into their product. Non seemed very sincere, just do this and you can get rich quick. I have watched Dean’s videos, and he honestly wants to help you succeed. With a little hard work and dedication success is possible.
Sherri
Sherri, you are right, it’s the hard work, dedication and doing the right things in the right way for the right reasons is when it happens. Get rich quick schemes are not a good long-term view as money comes money goes. It’s about, having the skills, the knowledge and building an asset that will then support you financially for the rest of your life. Wishing you all the best, thanks, Atif.
Atif,
A most impressive post. You obviously have a good grasp of what Dean’s message is and I love the way you present it. I can see a lot of followers coming your way. I hate those ads you see on FaceBook that promise thousands in no time at all. What rubbish! Dean Holland is the inspiration we all needed.
Andy. Thank you so much, yes, Dean Holland is the inspiration we all needed. He puts the reality, the knowledge and the know how to make affiliate marketing happen. He provides so much value and knowledge to us that I’m completely confident that it will work for me as it will for you. Thanks, take care Atif.
Hey Atif, I love this honest look at the wider community and all the bright lights and promises that exist out there for us to navigate through. I too was impressed with Dean Holland and went down a similar path to you. The sole reason for me being attracted to affiliate marketing was to be able to provide solutions and products that would help folk conquer their challenges and fears. Products that provide growth, inspiration and tools that really work. It’s a bit of a journey for me to get from being in IT, delivering corporate solutions and services, to getting into a space where I can promote and facilitate getting products and services that can absolutely transform lives, a an individual and very personal level. Thanks for your post. Cheers Rose
Rose, thanks very much for the comment you have exactly the right attitude for this as your focus is on helping people. By providing them solutions that’s what this is all about as we love fixing problems and people want their problems fixed. I look forward to seeing your journey too and I wish you all the best. Thanks, Atif
Those “other” affiliate or digital marketing advertisements make me so mad! Having spent enough time around Dean now and with a good foundational understanding under my belt about this online business stuff, I see those “just go this one thing and get rich tomorrow” ads are so gross. They are at best misleading, but I really would consider them predatory and outright false. They conveniently leave out so much of the steps and work required to actually see any kind of meaningful income from the strategy they are promoting. And how many people fall prey to that nonsense and then distrust the entire industry as a result when digital and affiliate marketing CAN truly be a gateway to life-changing profit. There really needs to be a lot more honesty in the industry, and I am very glad to have found Dean’s program and allied myself with like-minded people.
AK
Acasha, you are right those ads are gross. It’s not that it’s not possible. It’s just the way they make it sound like it can be done today in a few clicks. It’s very misleading as you know that it takes understanding the system, the software, advertising, your audience as well as creating content. Yes, unfortunately many people will fall pray to this stuff while others get rich off of it. I wouldn’t be happy making money unless it was moral and decent and not taking advantage of people. You now have Dean and he’s the best mentor in the business. I wish you all the best until next time. Thanks, Atif
Atif Yes! Everything you said about the ads… I myself was misled into Affiliate Marketing. Sold a dream of easy riches by ”just reviewing products online”. Now I am on the other side it grinds my gears. I will admit I fell into he trap of copying people in these ads and using the same scripts and that was because my mentor told me that is what I NEEDED to do. ” DONT REINVENT THE WHEEL” he would say, or something along those lines. I too am on a mission to be transparent and truthful about Affiliate Marketing. Anyone can do this but it’s not for everyone, because not everyone has the drive and desire required to be successful in this game. Would you agree?
Kelley, there’s so many people out there unfortunately selling ideas as if things can just be done instantly. This ‘all you have to do’ kind of attitude is incredibly misleading and I would even go to say immoral. Without the coaching, it is easy to just copy what everyone else is doing and that’s where we lose our way. But now you have Dean to copy and he’s completely legit and the right thing for us. I would agree with you that it’s not just about the process and following it, it’s about being the type of person you want to be. It’s about acting and behaving the right way. So I am being completely open and transparent about my journey meaning that I can always say everything I said was the truth even if people don’t like it. It is actually mindset that is the key to being successful. I would agree. Without it, we are just chasing money and that’s not what this is about > thank you, Atif
